Section 97

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1985 Replacement Volume and 1988 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 89 - Division of Labor and Industry

97.

(A)  The Commissioner shall appoint [an assistant
commissioner of labor and industry] A CHIEF INSPECTOR for
railroad safety and health [, subject to approval of the
Secretary of Licensing and Regulation. The Commissioner] AND may
assign to the [assistant commissioner] CHIEF INSPECTOR [such]
functions and duties under this subtitle [that he determines
appropriate].

(B)  The [assistant commissioner] CHIEF INSPECTOR shall
receive a salary as [may be] provided in the budget and [serve at
the pleasure of the Commissioner] BE SUBJECT TO THE STATE MERIT
SYSTEM LAW.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1989.
