JOINT RESOLUTIONS

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Reference to the Honorable William Donald Schaefer, Governor of Maryland;
the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and the
Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates.

A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

Maryland State Police Alumni Association

FOR the purpose of recognizing and commending the Maryland State Police Alumni
Association for its support of Maryland law enforcement agencies and its outstanding
public service throughout the State.

WHEREAS, The Maryland State Police Alumni Association was founded in 1961 as
a social, fraternal, and service organization for retired members of the Maryland State
Police; and

WHEREAS, The express objective of the Association is to provide support to the
Maryland State Police in the overall operation of the Department; and

WHEREAS, At this time the Maryland State Police Alumni Association has more
than 500 members spread over every geographic region of the State; and

WHEREAS, These members are highly trained and prepared to assist the police and
the public in the event of an emergency or disaster; and

WHEREAS, The Maryland State Police Alumni Association meets regularly to
consider and develop means of maintaining good relations between the Maryland State
Police and the communities served; and

WHEREAS, In sponsoring its annual Trooper of the Year award the Association
strives to foster pride in the police profession; and

WHEREAS, The Association also recognizes the civic contributions of its own
members by awards of merit for outstanding achievement; and

WHEREAS, As part of its continuing efforts to inspire our young people to consider
the rewards of a career in public safety, the Maryland State Police Alumni Association
grants the Matthew Puncke Scholarship to a deserving Maryland youth; and

WHEREAS, The General Assembly of Maryland wishes to acknowledge the many
selfless services of the Maryland State Police Alumni Association to the Maryland State
Police and to the people of Maryland; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Maryland State Police Alumni Association be recognized as a highly trained and readily
