LAWS OF MARYLAND

AN APPLICANT SHALL BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD AS OF THE DATE
OF ADMISSION.

(D)  EDUCATION.

AN APPLICANT SHALL:

(1)  HAVE COMPLETED AT LEAST 90 SEMESTER HOURS OF
ACADEMIC WORK:

(I)  AT AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION THAT THE
MARYLAND HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION APPROVES TO GIVE PRELEGAL
TRAINING; AND

(II)  IN A CURRICULUM THAT THE COURT OF APPEALS
AND MARYLAND HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION AUTHORIZE; AND

(2)  HAVE A DEGREE OF JURIS DOCTOR OR ITS EQUIVALENT
FROM A LAW SCHOOL THAT THE BOARD RECOGNIZES.

(E)  EXAMINATION.

AN APPLICANT SHALL PASS A WRITTEN EXAMINATION GIVEN BY THE
BOARD UNDER THIS SUBTITLE.

(F)  ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS.

AN APPLICANT SHALL MEET ANY OTHER QUALIFICATION OR
REQUIREMENT THAT THE COURT OF APPEALS ESTABLISHES BY RULE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsection (a) of this section is new
language added to introduce the basic requirements for
an applicant for admission to the Bar.

Subsection (b) of this section is new language derived
without substantive change from the second sentence of
former Art. 10, § 3(c), as that sentence related to
the character of an applicant.

Subsection (c) of this section is new language derived
without substantive change from the second clause of
former Art. 10, § 5.

Subsection (d) of this section is new language derived
without substantive change from the third sentence of
former Art. 10, § 4(b) and, as it related to the
requirement that an applicant be a graduate of a law
school, the first clause of § 5.

Subsection (e) of this section is new language added
to state expressly that which only was implied in the
former law -- i.e., an applicant must not only take
but pass the examination given by the Board.
