Ch. 3

LAWS OF MARYLAND

(A)  COMPOSITION; APPOINTMENT.

(1)  THE BOARD CONSISTS OF 7 MEMBERS.

(2)  EACH MEMBER SHALL BE A LAWYER.

(3)  THE COURT OF APPEALS SHALL APPOINT THE MEMBERS OF
THE BOARD.

(B)  QUALIFICATIONS.

EACH MEMBER OF THE BOARD SHALL HAVE BEEN A LAWYER FOR AT
LEAST 5 YEARS.

(C)  TENURE; VACANCIES.

(1)  THE TERM OF A MEMBER IS 5 YEARS AND BEGINS ON
JANUARY 1.

(2)  THE TERMS OF MEMBERS ARE STAGGERED AS REQUIRED BY
THE TERMS PROVIDED FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD ON OCTOBER 1, 1989.

(3)  AT THE END OF A TERM, A MEMBER CONTINUES TO SERVE
UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.

(4)  A MEMBER WHO IS APPOINTED AFTER A TERM HAS BEGUN
SERVES ONLY FOR THE REST OF THE TERM AND UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS
APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.

(5)  THE COURT OF APPEALS MAY REAPPOINT A MEMBER.

(D)  QUORUM.

A MAJORITY OF THE AUTHORIZED MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD IS A
QUORUM.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsections (a), (b), (c)(1), (4), and (5),
and (d) of this section are new language derived
without substantive change from the second through
fourth sentences and, except for the first clause, the
first sentence of former Art. 10, § 2.

Subsection (c)(2) of this section is standard language
added to reflect the stagger created in accordance
with Ch. 273, § 2, Acts of 1977. This addition is not
intended to alter the term of any member of the Board.

See § 7 of Ch. ___, Acts of 1989. Accordingly, in

subsection (c)(1) of this section, the specific
reference to "January 1" is added. The terms of the
members serving on October 1, 1989, end as
follows: (1) 1 in 1989; (2) 2 in 1990; (3) 2 in 1991;
(4) 1 in 1992; and (5) 1 in 1993.
