37.
(d) In case death ensues from the injury within [five] 7
years, reasonable funeral expenses shall be allowed, not to
exceed the sum of $2,500. Any bill for funeral expenses
contracted for an amount in excess of $2,500 shall be null and
void and uncollectible out of the compensation allowed or out of
the personal assets of the person or persons to whom such
compensation is payable, unless and until the bill is approved by
the Commission; provided, however, that if there are no
dependents all expenses of last sickness and burial shall be paid
by the employer or insurance company, or out of the State
Accident Fund, as the case may be.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1989.

AN ACT concerning
Lending Practices - Discrimination
FOR the purpose of prohibiting certain creditors from
discriminating against any applicant for credit based on
race, color, religion, national origin, or age, or physical
or mental handicap, requiring a creditor to provide an
applicant for credit notice that describes prohibited
discriminatory practices, the procedure for filing a
complaint against a creditor, a summary of certain civil
penalties that apply if a creditor engages in discriminatory
practices, and a statement that outlines certain other
protections an applicant may have; making any violation of
the Federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act a violation of the
Maryland Equal Credit Opportunity Act; requiring the Bank
Commissioner and the Commissioner of Consumer Credit to
investigate complaints of discrimination; and generally
relating to discrimination in lending practices.
