LAWS OF MARYLAND

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1989 January 1, 1990.

(House Bill 521)

AN ACT concerning

Vehicle Laws - On Board Video Monitors

FOR the purpose of providing that a certain provision of law
governing the operation of a motor vehicle equipped with
television-type equipment does not prevent the use in a
vehicle of equipment used exclusively for alphanumeric data
and text transmission and reception.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Transportation

22-414.

(a) A motor vehicle driven on a highway in this State may
not be equipped with television-type receiving equipment in front
of the back of the driver's seat or otherwise visible to the
driver.

(b)  This section does not prevent [the]:

(1)  THE use of television-type receiving equipment in
a vehicle exclusively for safety or law enforcement purposes, as
approved by the State Police; OR

(2)  THE USE IN A VEHICLE OF EQUIPMENT USED
EXCLUSIVELY FOR ALPHANUMERIC DATA AND TEXT TRANSMISSION AND
RECEPTION.
