(a) Except in Montgomery and Harford counties, the judges
of the courts shall receive compensation and allowances as
prescribed by law. Unless otherwise provided, the compensation
shall be paid in monthly installments. Mileage or travel
expenses may not be allowed to a judge for attending sessions of
his court except as specifically provided.

[(j) Each of the judges of the court for Charles County
shall receive as annual compensation $4,000. Each judge shall
also be allowed $500 annually for traveling expenses, payable
quarterly.]

(J) (1) THE SALARY FOR EACH JUDGE OF THE COURT FOR CHARLES
COUNTY IS:

(I)  $4,500 FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1991;

(II)   $5,000 FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1992;

(III)  $5,500 FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1993; AND

(IV)   $6,000 FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1994.

(2) EACH JUDGE IS ENTITLED TO $500 EACH YEAR FOR
TRAVEL EXPENSES, PAYABLE QUARTERLY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the salary and

travel expenses for each judge of the Orphans' Court for Charles

County specified in Chapter 420 of 1985 shall remain in effect
for the remainder of the current term.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to
Article III, § 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may
not be construed to extend or apply to the salary or compensation
of the judges of the Orphans' Court for Charles County in office
on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act
concerning the salary or compensation of the judges of the
Orphans' Court for Charles County shall take effect at the
beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1989.
