(u) (1) (i) The Sheriff of Somerset County shall receive a
salary of not less than [$18,500] $28,000 and no expense
allowance.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to
Article III, § 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may
not be construed to extend or apply to the salary or compensation
of the Somerset County Sheriff in office on the effective date of
this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary
or compensation of the Somerset County Sheriff shall take effect
at the beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1989.

AN ACT concerning

Wicomico County - Sheriff's Salary

FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Wicomico County
sheriff; and providing that the salary increase does not
affect the incumbent sheriff.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

salary of [$28,000] $38,000. He shall appoint a chief deputy at
a salary [of at least $5,000 as] set by the Wicomico County
