(c) If there is an unanticipated shortage of available
petit jurors in the qualified jury wheel, the court may require
the sheriff to summon a sufficient number of petit jurors
selected at random from the voter registration lists in a manner
ordered by the court consistent with §§ 8-102 and 8-103 of this
title.

(A)  NOTHING IN THIS SUBTITLE MAY BE CONSTRUED TO PROHIBIT A
COURT FROM ELECTING TO COMBINE THE QUALIFICATION AND SUMMONING OF
PROSPECTIVE JURORS INTO A SINGLE PROCEDURE.

(B)  WHEN JUROR QUALIFICATION FORMS REQUIRED UNDER § 8-206
OF THIS SUBTITLE ARE MAILED WITH THE SUMMONS REQUIRED UNDER §
8-208(B) OF THIS SUBTITLE, EACH PERSON DRAWN FOR JURY SERVICE
SHALL BE NOTIFIED TO REPORT FOR JURY DUTY UNLESS OTHERWISE
INSTRUCTED BY THE CLERK OR JURY COMMISSIONER.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1988.

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1125.

This bill requires the State Board of Nursing to make annually:
(1) a survey of hospitals and institutions for areas of shortage,
and (2) 5-year projections on the average statewide areas of
shortage and the number of students expected to graduate and
become licensed in those areas of shortage.

Senate Bill 651, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on May 27, 1988, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 1125.
