CHAPTER 774

(House Bill 9)

AN ACT concerning

Secondhand Precious Metals and Gem Dealers
and Pawnbrokers - Employees
- Exemptions for Retail Jewelers

FOR the purpose of defining the term "employee" as it applies to
employees of certain dealers and pawnbrokers; providing for
certain fees and investigations; exempting certain
transactions involving retail jewelers from the secondhand
precious metals and gem dealers and pawnbrokers law under
certain circumstances; requiring retail jewelers to permit
any law enforcement officer to enter certain premises under
certain circumstances; defining certain terms; providing a
certain effective date; and generally relating to certain
employees of secondhand precious metals and gem dealers and
pawnbrokers.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 56 - Licenses

Section 416, 417, 418(d), and 419

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1983 Replacement Volume and 1987 Supplement)

BY adding to

Section 417A

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1983 Replacement Volume and 1987 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 56 - Licenses

416.

(a) In this subtitle- the following words have the meanings
indicated.

(B) "RETAIL JEWELER" MEANS A BONA FIDE RETAIL JEWELER WITH
A FIXED BUSINESS ADDRESS IN THIS STATE.

(b) (C) "County" means a county or Baltimore City.
