SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That pursuant to
Article III, § 35, of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may
not be construed to extend or apply to the salary or compensation
of the chief assistant sheriff and the assistant sheriffs in
office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of

this Act concerning the salary or compensation of the chief

assistant sheriff and the assistant sheriffs shall take effect at
the beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1988.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

3-803.

(a) (1) From and after July 1, [1987] 1988, at the
beginning of each member's full term, the Chairman of the County
Board is entitled to receive $12,000 $14,000 annually as
compensation and the other elected members are each entitled to
receive $11,500 $13,000 annually as compensation.
