AN ACT concerning

Electricians

FOR the purpose of adding a new Article to the Annotated Code of
Maryland, to be designated and known as "Article 56A -
Miscellaneous Business Occupations", to revise, restate, and
recodify, through both substantive and nonsubstantive
changes, the laws of this State relating and pertaining to
the licensing of electricians, including: adding and
altering definitions; changing the name of the State
regulatory board for electricians; conforming language and
certain provisions relating to exemptions for persons
supplying or furnishing electrical material or equipment;
altering certain provisions relating to the State regulatory
board for electricians, including membership, quorum
requirements, miscellaneous duties, enforcement powers, and
injunctive powers; imposing requirements on counties to
regulate electricians; clarifying the relationship of a
licensee to an individual whom the licensee supervises;
altering the number of years of certain work experience with
which an applicant for a State license may be credited;
clarifying the deadline for the payment of the application
fee for the State electricians' examination, application
procedures for reexamination, requirements for waiver of
examination, steps for renewal of a State license, and the
provisions relating to inactive status of a State license;
establishing procedures for the assignment of a local
license; creating a State license as a mechanism for
obtaining a local license; expanding requirements for the
issuance of an electrical permit; adding notice requirements
for the cancellation of insurance; clarifying the employment
of a nonlicensee; providing for uniform fees for resident
and nonresident licensees; providing for the evaluation and
termination of certain laws relating to electricians under
the Maryland Program Evaluation Act; repealing inconsistent
and obsolete laws relating to electricians; conforming
certain miscellaneous provisions of the Annotated Code
relating to electricians; transferring certain provisions
providing for the continuation of certain exemptions and
provisions until certain provisions of this Act become
