AN ACT concerning

Somerset County - Jail Warden

FOR the purpose of repealing the mandatory requirement that the
Somerset County Commissioners appoint a jail warden, and
making that appointment discretionary with the County
Commissioners.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

(u) (1) (iv) The County Commissioners [shall] MAY appoint a
jail warden as the county jailer. Prior to the appointment of
any individual, the County Commissioners shall establish an
annual rate of compensation for the county jailer.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1988.
