location where certain identification information shall be
displayed; altering the capacity for trucks exempted from
certain identification requirements; adding an exception for
vehicles operating within a certain time from the date of
purchase; and generally relating to identification
     requirements for certain vehicles.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Transportation

22-404.3.

(a)  Every truck, truck tractor, and bus operated on
highways in this State, except as provided in subsection (e) of
this section, shall be identified with the name, trade name, or
company logo, and the city and state of its owner [or operator] ,
OPERATOR, OR LESSEE. However, instead of the city and state, one
of the following may be used:

(1)  The company unit number;

(2)  The Interstate Commerce Commission number; or

(3)  The number issued by a State agency.

(b)  The display of identification required by this section
shall BE ON BOTH DOORS OR SIDES OF EACH POWER UNIT AND be in
letters in sharp color contrast to the background and shall be of
such size, shape, and color as to be readily legible, during
daylight hours, from a distance of 50 feet while the vehicle is
not in motion.

(c)  The display of identification may be accomplished
through the use of a removable device so prepared as to otherwise
meet the identification and legibility requirements of this
section.

(d)  This section does not prohibit the display of any
additional identification required by other laws of this State or
any other state, or by any agency or department of the federal
government.
