Police Aviation Division. If the
Maryland State Police are unable
to hire the number of pilots who
are willing to become enforcement
officers necessary to expand the

Med-Evac System, then the

Maryland State Police shall hire
civilian pilots.
The Maryland State Police shall
apprise the General Assembly of
its recruiting efforts and the
progress in expanding the pilot
component of the Med-Evac System
by November 30, 1987. All pilots

with a minimum of 2,000

helicopter flight hours who have
a Commercial Pilot Certificate
with a helicopter rating and
instrument rating for helicopters

are to be given equal

consideration in recruitment and
hiring, regardless of the nature
of helicopter operations in which
those hours were accumulated.

Be it further provided that at
least 10 new trooper positions in

addition to 25 troopers

authorized hereunder for field
forces shall be assigned to
Barrack field units.

All contracts with units of local
government for. Resident Trooper
services shall be subject to
indirect cost recovery; such
recovery shall not include items
of expense given free of charge
to local police departments of
the State; such indirect costs
recovered- shall be utilized as
special funds for operating
expenses under this program.

Funds are appropriated in the Motor
Vehicle Fuel Tax Division, the
State Aviation Administration,
and the Maryland Port
Administration budgets to pay for
indirect costs. Authorization is
hereby granted to use these
