SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1987.

AN ACT concerning

    Housing — Rental Housing Assistance

FOR the purpose of altering the definition of Rental Housing
Production Project to permit a lower proportion of occupancy
by families of lower income for certain projects; including
the Department of Economic and Community Development as an
eligible sponsor; clarifying the Department's responsibility
for monitoring the occupancy of certain rental units;
allowing the Department to own, lease, construct, or
rehabilitate certain projects; and generally relating to the
Rental Housing Assistance Program.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

     Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative
Departments
Section ll-801(k) and (1) and 11-804

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative Departments

11-801.

(k) "Rental housing production project" or "project" means
any project or undertaking for the acquisition, construction, or
rehabilitation of buildings and improvements, or any portion
thereof, which buildings and improvements or portion thereof will
be occupied [entirely] by families of lower income AS FOLLOWS:

        (1) FOR PROJECTS WHICH QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL LOW-INCOME
HOUSING TAX CREDITS, THE NUMBER OF RESIDENTIAL UNITS SELECTED BY
THE SPONSOR TO SATISFY THE FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS WILL BE OCCUPIED
BY FAMILIES OF LOWER INCOME, OR
