EXECUTIVE ORDERS
Senate, recommended by the President of the Senate; and
one of whom shall be a member of the House of Delegates,
recommended by the Speaker of the House. Seven of the
members shall be persons whose experience and position
enables them to evaluate workers' compensation matters
and develop balanced recommendations to produce a more
efficient system. The Governor shall designate a
chairperson and vice-chairperson from among the members.
The Commission shall conduct a thorough review of the
law, procedures and other matters relating to the cost
of workers' compensation and the efficient provision of
adequate benefits to Maryland workers. It shall:
(a) Review the findings and recommendations of the
Department of Economic and Community Development
study and Ad Hoc Working Group;
(b) Hold hearings at which persons with an interest
in workers' compensation laws may present their
views;
(c) Conduct such meetings, research projects,
investigations and discussion as may be necessary
to gather information relating to workers'
compensation costs and benefits in Maryland and
in other states;
(d) Call upon State agencies to aid in the gathering
and analysis of information;
(e) To the extent funds are made available in the
State budget, employ a support staff necessary to
carry out its functions.
The Commission shall recommend changes to the laws of
this State and other matters governing or relating to
workers' compensation as appear to be in the public
interest, and shall submit a report to the Governor,
together with appropriate legislative proposals, by
December 1, 1986 and each year during which the
Commission is in existence.
The existence of the Commission shall continue until
termination by executive order.
