Senate Bill No. 376
AN ACT concerning
Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford, and Howard Counties and
Baltimore City - Sunday Blue Laws
FOR the purpose of permitting wholesale and retail establishments
in certain counties and Baltimore City to conduct business
on Sunday; providing that certain Sunday restrictions,
conditions, and regulations intended to limit Sunday sales
and commonly known as "Sunday Blue Laws" do not apply in
these jurisdictions; requiring certain retail or wholesale
establishments to operate subject to specific restrictions;
providing that this Act does not apply to alcoholic
beverages sales; providing that violation of a certain
provision is a misdemeanor; defining certain terms;
permitting certain employees of wholesale and retail
establishments in certain counties and Baltimore City to
choose as a day of rest their Sabbath or Sunday as a day of
rest by filing written notice with the employer; providing
that a merchant is not required to be open on Sunday;
providing that a landlord may not cancel or refuse to renew
the lease of a merchant because the merchant refuses to open
the merchant's place of business on Sunday; prohibiting new
and used car dealers from conducting certain Sunday
activities in certain counties and Baltimore City; providing
certain penalties; making the provisions of this Act
severable; and generally relating to the repeal of
restrictions on certain activities in certain counties and
Baltimore City.
