JOINT RESOLUTIONS
WHEREAS, Anne Arundel County is experiencing substantial
population growth, an employment increase, and economic
development; and
WHEREAS, Transportation services should be improved within
Anne Arundel County to provide the public with efficient
transportation to locations inside and outside the County; and
WHEREAS, The Maryland Department of Transportation and its
Mass Transit Administration and local governments are the
governmental units responsible for operating and improving the
transit system in the Baltimore area and for coordinating
transportation services statewide; and
WHEREAS, The State supports the MTA Suburban Transit Program
and future express and local bus services connecting locations in
Baltimore City to locations within Anne Arundel County, including
Brooklyn Park, and the high growth areas of Glen Burnie,
Annapolis, Severna Park, Crofton, Odenton, the Fort
Smallwood/Mountain Road corridors, and the Baltimore-Washington
International Airport employment area; and
WHEREAS, The State supports the study of the development of
a light rail transit line in Anne Arundel County connecting
Baltimore City and the areas of Glen Burnie, Linthicum,
Annapolis, and the Baltimore-Washington International Airport;
and now, therefore, be it
WHEREAS, The light rail transit line and the coordinated and
expanded bus service will greatly enhance opportunities for those
who live and work in Anne Arundel County; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That these
vital public transportation proposals be developed to serve
existing residential areas and employment areas, to relieve
congested roads, and to respond to continued population growth,
employment increase, and economic development in Anne Arundel
County; and be it' further
RESOLVED, That the Maryland Department of Transportation and
its Mass Transit Administration initiate actions which will lead
to rapid implementation and completion of the light rail transit
line and the full suburban bus network a study of the possible
development of the light rail transit line, expansion of the
surburban bus network, and other transportation development
alternatives in Anne Arundel County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Honorable William
Donald Schaefer, Governor of Maryland; the Honorable Thomas V.
Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and the
Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Speaker of the House of
