(2) The form of the citation issued under this
section should be uniform throughout the State and shall be as
prescribed by the District Court.
[(3)] (D) The chief judge of the District Court may
NOT establish a schedule for the prepayment of fines[, which may
not exceed $100. A fine is payable by the recipient of the
citation to the issuing jurisdiction in which the offense
occurred within 20 calendar days of receipt of the citation].
[(4) If an individual elects to stand trial, a fine
not to exceed $100 may be imposed for each conviction of a Code
violation. A repeat offender may be assessed a fine not
exceeding $200 for each conviction of a Code violation.
(d) A person receiving the citation for a Code violation
may elect to stand trial for the offense by notifying the issuing
jurisdiction of his intention to stand trial. The notice shall
be given at least 5 days prior to the date of payment as set
forth in the citation. Upon receipt of the notice of the
intention to stand trial, the]
(E) (1) THE issuing jurisdiction shall forward to the
District Court having venue a copy of the [notice from the person
who received the] citation [indicating his intention to stand
trial] AND A REQUEST FOR A TRIAL. [Upon receipt of the citation,
the District Court shall schedule the case for trial and notify
the defendant of the trial date. All fines, penalties, or
forfeitures collected by the District Court for Code violations
shall be remitted to the issuing government.
(e) If a person receiving a citation for a violation fails
to pay the fine for the violation by the date of payment set
forth in the citation and fails to file a notice of his intent to
stand trial for the offense, a formal notice of the violation
shall be sent to the person's last known address. If the
citation has not been satisfied within 15 days from the date of
the notice, the person shall be liable for an additional fine not
to exceed twice the original fine. If after 35 days the citation
has not been satisfied, the issuing jurisdiction may request
adjudication of the case through the District Court.]
(2) The District Court shall promptly schedule the
case for trial and summon the defendant to appear. The
defendant's failure to respond to the summons shall be contempt
of court.
(f) (1) If a person is found by the District Court to have
committed a Code violation, that person shall be required to pay
a fine in an amount not to exceed $100 [or in the event that] AND
SHALL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE 24 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE.
