A conviction under this section is to be punished by a fine
not to exceed $1,000 for each employee caused, directed,
permitted or authorized to work in violation of this section.
Nothing contained herein shall be construed to permit any fine
upon any employee or agent who has been caused or directed by his
employer to violate the provisions of this section.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1987.

FOR the purpose of repealing the assortment of laws that govern
the sale of goods, materials, and services on Sundays in
Maryland, with an exception; permitting retail and wholesale
establishments in the State to open and conduct business on
Sunday; defining terms; allowing certain employees to choose
their own day of rest without any discrimination or
disciplinary action on the part of the employer; providing
that a merchant is not required to be open on Sunday;
providing that a landlord may not cancel or refuse to renew
the lease of a merchant because the merchant refuses to open
the merchant's place of business on Sunday; prohibiting new
or used car dealers from conducting business on Sunday;
providing penalties for violations of this Act; providing
that the laws governing service of process and alcoholic
beverages are not part of this Act; providing that the
provisions of this Act are severable; and generally relating
to Sunday blue laws in this State.
