LAWS OF MARYLAND

(e)  Notwithstanding any provision of this section, any
establishment which offers service as its primary business is
allowed to operate on Sunday.

(f)  All recreational activities, sports, and amusements are
permitted on Sunday.

(G) (1) NOTWITHSTANDING ANY PROVISION OF THIS SECTION TO
THE CONTRARY, A BUSINESS MAY REMAIN OPEN IN WASHINGTON COUNTY ON
ALL CONSECUTIVE SUCCESSIVE SUNDAYS THAT FALL BETWEEN THANKSGIVING
DAY AND DECEMBER 25, EXCEPT DECEMBER 25.

(2)  THE 6-PERSON BUSINESS OPENING PROVISION UNDER
SUBSECTION (C)(3) OF THIS SUBSECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO BUSINESS
OPENINGS PERMITTED UNDER THIS SUBSECTION.

(3)  (I) NOTWITHSTANDING ANY AGREEMENT TO THE CONTRARY
BETWEEN A MERCHANT AND LANDLORD, A MERCHANT MAY NOT BE REQUIRED
TO OPEN THE MERCHANT'S PLACE OF BUSINESS ON SUNDAY UNDER THIS
SUBSECTION.

(II)  A LANDLORD MAY NOT REFUSE TO RENEW THE
LEASE OF A MERCHANT OR OTHERWISE DISCRIMINATE AGAINST A MERCHANT
FOR FAILING TO OPEN THE MERCHANT'S PLACE OF BUSINESS ON SUNDAY
UNDER THIS SUBSECTION.

(III)  ANY LANDLORD WHO VIOLATES THE PROVISIONS
OF THIS PARAGRAPH IS GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND ON CONVICTION IS
SUBJECT TO A FINE NOT TO EXCEED $1,000 FOR EACH OFFENCE.

(4)  IF THE BUSINESS OPENS ON SUNDAY UNDER THE
PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBSECTION, AN EMPLOYEE WHO NOTIFIES HIS
EMPLOYER IN ADVANCE IN WRITING, MAY NOT BE REQUIRED TO WORK, IF
BY REASON OF RELIGIOUS CONVICTION, THE EMPLOYEE OBSERVES THAT DAY
AS A DAY OF REST AND ACTUALLY REFRAINS FROM LABOR OR SECULAR
BUSINESS ON THAT DAY.

(5)  PERSONS OR RETAILERS ENGAGED IN THE SALE OF MOTOR
VEHICLES MAY NOT OPEN FOR BUSINESS UNDER THIS SUBSECTION.

[(g)] (H) Nothing in this section shall be deemed or

construed to amend other provisions of law with reference to the

prohibition of alcoholic beverage sales, or the service of
process on Sunday.

[(h)] (I) The State's Attorney of Washington County may
petition the circuit court to enjoin any violation of this
section.

[(i)] (J) Any person, firm or corporation violating the
provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon
conviction, is subject to the following penalties.
