Development, subject to the authority of the Secretary of
Economic and Community Development as set forth in this Code.]
(B) The Division of [Economic] BUSINESS Development of the
Department [of Economic and Community Development] shall have the
general purpose of advancing the economic welfare of the people
through programs and activities to develop in a proper manner the
State's natural resources and economic opportunities and to
promote and encourage the location of new industries and
businesses in the State of Maryland as well as encouraging the
expansion of existing industries and other matters intended to
foster and develop gainful employment and the pursuit of
happiness of all who now are or who may hereafter be residents of
this State.

The Secretary [of Economic and Community Development], with
the approval of the Governor, shall appoint a Director of the
Division of [Economic] BUSINESS Development. The position of
Director shall hold office at the Secretary's pleasure. He may
be removed by the Secretary [of Economic and Community
Development], with the approval of the Governor. Any such
removal by the Secretary [of Economic and Community Development]
is final and is not subject to any appeal. The Director shall be
selected because of his known experience and interest in the
development of natural resources and industrial AND BUSINESS
opportunities. The Director shall operate this Division under
the direction of the Secretary [of Economic and Community
Development] in accordance with the provisions of the law
relating to establishment of the Department [of Economic and
Community Development].

The Division shall:
(1) Investigate and assemble information pertinent to
the economic development, industrial opportunities and economic
resources of the State, including raw materials, power and water
resources, transportation facilities, markets, labor, banking and
financing facilities, industrial sites and other fields of
research[.];
(2) Encourage location of new industrial enterprises
in the State and the retention and expansion of present
enterprises in coordination with local governing bodies and local
economic development agencies[.];
(3) Coordinate its activities with those of the
Division of [Tourist Development] TOURISM AND PROMOTION in the
promotion of tourism in the State[.];
