Ch. 274                                    LAWS OF MARYLAND

(2) THE SHERIFF MAY APPOINT AS A SPECIAL DEPUTY
SHERIFF:

(I) THE CHIEF OF POLICE OF A HARFORD COUNTY
MUNICIPALITY; OR

(II) A MEMBER OF THE POLICE FORCE OF A HARFORD
COUNTY MUNICIPALITY WHO IS CERTIFIED BY THE MARYLAND POLICE
TRAINING COMMISSION.

(3) A SPECIAL DEPUTY SHERIFF APPOINTED UNDER THIS
SUBSECTION IS NOT AN EMPLOYEE OF HARFORD COUNTY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act is
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of
all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, it shall take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT concerning

State Merit System - Baltimore City Sheriff's Office

FOR the purpose of including certain employees the positions of
Secretary I and Account Clerk II
of the Sheriff's Office of
Baltimore City in the State Merit System; and making this
Act an emergency measure.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Preamble

WHEREAS, It was the intent of the Maryland General Assembly
that all employees of the Sheriff's office in Baltimore City were
to be transferred to the classified service by Section 4A of
Chapter 109 of a the Laws of Maryland of 1986; and
