AN ACT concerning

State Board of Dental Examiners - Terms of Members

FOR the purpose of altering the length of the term of a member of
the State Board of Dental Examiners; and generally relating
to the State Board of Dental Examiners.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Health Occupations

Section 4-202(h)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Health Occupations

4-202(h).

(h) (1) The term of a member is [6] 3 4 years[, except
that the initial term of one of the consumer members is 5 years].

(2)  The terms of the members are staggered as
required by the terms provided for members of the Board on July
1, [1981] 1987.

(3)  At the end of a term, a member continues to serve
until a successor is appointed and qualifies.

(4)  A member who is appointed after a term has begun
serves only for the rest of the term and until a successor is
appointed and qualifies.

(5)  A member may not be appointed for more than two
consecutive full terms.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act applies
to the terms of office of members of the Board who take office
July 1, 1987, and thereafter, except that: the initial terms of
the 3 dentist members who are appointed in 1989 shall be 5 years;
and of the 3 dentist members who are appointed in 1991, the
initial term of 1 member shall be 5 years.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1987.
