DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND
CORRECTIONAL SERVICES
For the purpose of placing a
ceiling on the total number of
employees at any one time in
fiscal year 1987, the Department
of Public Safety and Correctional
Services shall not expend funds
for any job or position of
employment approved in this
budget in excess of 8,955 8,878
8,965 positions. The Secretary of
the Department of Public Safety
and Correctional Services shall
utilize his prerogative under
Sections 204 through 204C of
Article 41 to implement this
provision, provided, however,
that any authorized job or
position to be filled above the
8,955 8,878 8,965 ceiling is
approved by the Board of Public
Works and counted against the
Rule of 50 imposed by the General
Assembly. The establishment of
new jobs or positions of
employment not authorized in the
fiscal year 1987 budget shall be
subject to Article 78A, Section
16B(a) and the Rule of 50.
OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY
35.01.01.01 General Administration
General Fund Appropriation,
provided that $1,950,000
$1,500,000 of this appropriation
for the purpose of Deferred
Maintenance projects at
correctional facilities under the
Division of Correction and
Patuxent Institution shall be
used for this purpose only and
may not be transferred by budget
amendment or otherwise for any
other purpose. Be it further
enacted, that $450,000 provided
for inmate work crews under State
Use Industries shall only be used
for maintenance and construction
projects within the Department of
Public Safety and Correctional
