Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 295.

This bill authorizes a certain number of members of each
fire company in Wicomico County to be designated to be appointed
as deputy sheriffs to function as fire police.

Senate Bill 217, which was passed by the General Assembly
and signed by me on April 8, 1986, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 295.

AN ACT concerning

Wicomico County - Fire Police

FOR the purpose of authorizing a certain number of members of
each fire company in Wicomico County to be designated to be
appointed as deputy sheriffs to function as fire police;
providing for the designating and appointing authorities;
establishing the powers and duties of the fire police;
providing for the controlling authority over the fire police
at certain locations; preventing the use of guns during the
performance of their duties; requiring that the fire police
demonstrate a satisfactory level of training; and generally
relating to the appointment, powers, and duties of fire
police in Wicomico County.
