The Honorable Melvin A. Steinberg
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 527.

This bill requires the State Fire Prevention Commission to
promote and conduct seminars, conferences, workshops, and
meetings to inform the public and fire fighters of changes in the
State fire code and the latest techniques used in fire prevention
and safety programs.

House Bill 1100, which was passed by the General Assembly
and signed by me on April 8, 1986, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 527.

Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor
