A House Joint Resolution concerning
The Bicentennial of Maryland's Ratification
of the United States Constitution
FOR the purpose of requesting the Postmaster General of the
United States Postal Service to issue a commemorative stamp
in honor of the Bicentennial of Maryland's ratification of
the United States Constitution and to issue commemorative
stamps honoring ratification of the United States
Constitution by the other twelve original states.
WHEREAS, Commemorative stamps have been issued to celebrate
the statehood of all states except the thirteen original states;
and
WHEREAS, The original thirteen states ratified the United
States Constitution and brought the federal union into being; and
WHEREAS, Maryland was one of the thirteen original members
of the new federal union and on April 28, 1788, became the
seventh state to ratify the United States Constitution; and
WHEREAS, Maryland's ratification of the Constitution was a
turning point in favor of the new government; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Postmaster General be requested to issue a commemorative stamp in
honor of the Bicentennial of Maryland's Ratification of the
United States Constitution; that the first day of issue be April
28, 1988 in Annapolis, Maryland; and that the Postmaster General
be requested to issue commemorative stamps honoring ratification
of the United States Constitution by the other twelve original.

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Honorable Harry
