expand Maryland's exports into neighboring nations; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Governor is requested to appoint the
honorary commercial attaches of the State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Honorable Harry
Hughes, Governor of Maryland; and Thomas H. Maddux, Secretary of
Economic and Community Development, 45 Calvert Street, Annapolis,
Maryland 21401.

A House Joint Resolution concerning
Bloodsworth Island - Wildlife Management Area Refuge
FOR the purpose of requesting the Department of Natural Resources
and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to begin
negotiations with the United States Navy and to make a
certain survey concerning making Bloodsworth Island a
wildlife management area.
Preamble
WHEREAS, Bloodsworth Island in Dorchester County contains
over 5,000 acres that are endowed with rich wildlife; and
WHEREAS, Many specimens of rare birds and animals, including
blue herons and ospreys, stay on or frequently visit Bloodsworth
Island; and
WHEREAS, The United States Navy obtained and continues to
have the right to use Bloodsworth Island for purposes of bombing
practice; and
WHEREAS, To preserve the environmental assets of Bloodsworth
Island, which is located in one of the most productive areas of
the Chesapeake Bay, this Joint Resolution is intended to start a
process that could accomplish this purpose; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Department of Natural Resources and, as to water quality, the
Assistant Secretariat for Environmental Programs of the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, are requested to begin
negotiations with the United States Navy concerning the
