A House Joint Resolution concerning
State Honorary Commercial Attache Program
FOR the purpose of requesting the Department of Economic and
Community Development to establish a State Honorary
Commercial Attache Program; and requesting the Governor to
appoint volunteer commercial attaches of the State for the
purpose of promoting the State's international trade.
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland is fully committed to a
strong international trade program and recognizes the important
role of exports to the State's economy and to the welfare of the
citizens of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Increasing the State's exports will greatly aid the
health and welfare of the citizens of the State by increasing the
sale of State-based goods and producing new jobs; and
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland recognizes the benefit of
involving colleges and universities in the State's international
trade program; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Department of Economic and Community Development is requested to
establish a State Honorary Commercial Attache Program consisting
of volunteers serving as honorary commercial attaches of the
State, for the purpose of promoting the State's international
trade; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Governor is requested to appoint the
honorary commercial attaches of the State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Department of Economic and Community
Development is requested to supply each attache with reference
materials concerning Maryland's industrial and agricultural
companies, as well as Maryland's economic conditions and tourism
opportunities; and be it further
RESOLVED, That attaches are requested to inform the
Department of Economic and Community Development about specific
business opportunities for Maryland products or services; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the Department of Economic and Community
Development is requested to notify the United States Ambassador
in the host nation, and the President, Prime Minister, or most
appropriate official, of the commercial attache's appointment by
a letter which also explains the objectives and characteristics
of the commercial attache program; and be it further
