AN ACT concerning
Prince George's County - Office of the State's Attorney

FOR the purpose of altering the salaries of the State's Attorney,
the deputy State's attorney, the assistant State's
attorneys, and the administrative assistant in Prince
George's County; increasing the number of assistant State's
attorneys; providing that certain work classifications in
the office of the Prince George's County State's Attorney
are subject to the State's Attorney's control and are
entitled to all benefits that are provided for county
employees under the Prince George's County merit system
providing for the applicability of this Act; and generally
relating to the office of the State's Attorney in Prince
George's County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

(q) In Prince George's County (1) [the State's Attorney's
salary shall be $58,000 for the year 1983; $60,900 for 1984;
$63,945 for 1985 and $67,143 for 1986] SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS
OF ARTICLE III, SECTION 35, OF THE CONSTITUTION OF MARYLAND, AND
BEGINNING WITH THE TERM OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY WHO IS ELECTED TO
THAT POSITION IN 1986, THE STATE'S ATTORNEY'S SALARY FOR THE
FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE SHALL BE EQUAL TO THE SALARY OF A CIRCUIT
COURT JUDGE OF THE 8 JUDICIAL CIRCUITS AND SHALL BE INCREASED 5%
ANNUALLY DURING THAT STATE'S ATTORNEY'S REMAINING 3 YEARS IN
OFFICE $69,195 FOR THE YEAR 1987, $72,655 FOR THE YEAR 1988,
76,285 FOR THE YEAR 1989, AND $81,000 FOR THE YEAR 1990 $75,000
ANNUALLY FOR THE YEARS OF 1987 THROUGH 1990. The State's
Attorney, during his term of office, shall not, except in
