(House Bill 1003)

AN ACT concerning

Allegany County - Sheriff

FOR the purpose of altering the minimum salary of the Sheriff of
Allegany County; and providing that this Act does not affect
the incumbent Sheriff of Allegany County.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

Section 2-309(b)(l)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

(b) (1) The Sheriff of Allegany County shall receive a
salary of at least [$12,500] $25,000, the exact amount to be set
by the County Commissioners from time to time.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to
Article III, § 35, of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may
not be construed to extend or apply to the salary or compensation
of the Sheriff of Allegany County in office on the effective date
of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary
or compensation of the Sheriff of Allegany County shall take
effect at the beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1986.
