Section 18-1406
Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Education
18-307.
(a) Each legislative district is entitled to an annual
allocation of not more than;
(1) [$6,000] $6,900; and
(2) [$4,000] $4,600 for each member entitled to be
elected to the House of Delegates from that district.
18-1401.
(a) In this [section] SUBTITLE the following words have the
meanings indicated.
(d) "Area of critical shortage" means AN ACADEMIC FIELD
[those fields] identified by the State Board of Education
pursuant to the provisions of § 18-1405 of this subtitle as
having projected employment vacancies substantially exceeding
projected qualified graduates.
18-1403.
(b) A recipient of a tuition assistance award shall:
(1) Be a resident of this State;
(2) Qualify as follows:
(i) Have [earned 60 credits of undergraduate
collegiate education] A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA and be enrolled in or
sign a letter of intent to enroll in a program leading to
certification to teach in an area of critical shortage and be
selected by the State Scholarship Board on a competitive basis
among qualified applicants based on academic criteria, not
limited to standardized tests, established by the State Board of
Education; or
(ii) Have an undergraduate or graduate degree
and be enrolled in or sign a letter of intent to enroll in
courses leading to certification to teach in an area of critical
shortage and be selected among qualified applicants on a
competitive basis based on academic criteria established by the
State Board of Education; or
