SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene shall
require any geriatric aide assistant who works in a long-term
care facility or program that cares for people who suffer from
Alzheimer's disease and related disorders to complete a
Department-sponsored approved course unit on dementia within a
reasonable period of time to be determined by the Department; and
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Secretary of
Health and Mental Hygiene shall appoint a 10-member advisory
committee to help assist the Department develop in approving
standards for the instructional unit on dementia under Section 1
of this Act; and
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the advisory
committee appointed by the Secretary under Section 2 of this Act
shall be composed of the following persons: 2 licensed
physicians who care for patients with Alzheimer's disease and
related disorders; 2 registered nurses who care for patients with
Alzheimer's disease and related disorders; 2 social workers who
care for patients with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders;
2 representatives of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene;
and 2 representatives of the Office on Aging, who shall be
recommended by the Director of the Office on Aging; and
SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the advisory
committee appointed under this Act shall complete its work and
make recommendations to the Secretary of Health and Mental
Hygiene on or before December 1, 1986; and
SECTION 5. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1986.
