(Senate Bill 155;
AN ACT concerning
Maryland Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) Research and Information Fund
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene - Disease Prevention -
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Research
and Information Program
FOR the purpose of creating the Maryland Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Research and Information Fund;
imposing a Maryland Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) Research and Information Fund Tax on cigarettes;
requiring the State Comptroller to pay the proceeds of the
Maryland AIDS Research and Information Fund Tax into the
Fund; providing for the effective dates of this Act;
providing for the application for certain sections of
Article 81 of the Code to this Act; requiring the Secretary
of Health and Mental Hygiene to use the Fund for certain
purposes; and generally relating to the creation,
establishment, administration, and application of the
Maryland AIDS Research and Information Fund.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That:
(a) There is a Maryland Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) Research and Information Fund to be funded by the Maryland
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Research and
Information Fund Tax.
(b) The Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene shall
administer the Fund and use the Fund to:
(1) Conduct or finance research into AIDS;
(2) Study the care and treatment of individuals who
are suffering from AIDS; and
(3) Make information available to the public
regarding AIDS.
