(B) [In addition to any other procedures, an] AN impounded

domesticated animal may not be sold, PLACED FOR ADOPTION, OR

destroyed [or otherwise disposed of] by an animal control agency
until:

(1) The animal has been carefully inspected for a
tag, tattoo, or other identification to ascertain the owner;

(2) The owner is notified is his identity [may]
reasonably MAY be ascertained by the inspection;

(3) 72 hours after notice has been given to the
owner.

[(b)] (C) The owner shall pay all fees, costs, and expenses
incurred by the animal control agency. A NEW OWNER MAY BE CHARGED
AN ADOPTION FEE.

[(c)] (D) As used in this section, "animal control agency"
means the local organization or governmental unit or agency
designated by the appropriate local governmental body to house,
care for, and control domestic animals of unknown ownership.

[(d)] (E) Any person who is convicted of a violation of any
of the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and
is subject to a fine of not more than $500.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect January 1, 1987.
