LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 290

ANY PERSON WHO IS CONVICTED OF A VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE
PROVISIONS OF § 10-7A-01 OF THIS SUBTITLE IS GUILTY OF A
MISDEMEANOR AND IS SUBJECT TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN $500.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Section(s) 67B

of Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments of the Annotated Code of

Maryland be repealed.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1986.

Animal Shelters - Disposal of Dogs and Cats

FOR the purpose of prohibiting animal control agencies from
selling impounded dogs and cats: altering provisions of law
relating to means of disposal of dogs and cats impounded in
shelters
; requiring that certain means of disposal of dogs
and cats be used; providing that new owners of impounded
dogs and cats may be charged adoption fees; altering certain
provisions of law; making certain stylistic changes:
Providing a delayed effective date; and generally relating
to the disposal of dogs and cats by shelters and animal
control facilities.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

Section 67B

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1982 Replacement Volume and 1985 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

67B.

(a) ANIMAL SHELTERS AND ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITIES SHALL
DISPOSE OF UNCLAIMED DOGS AND CATS ONLY BY THE FOLLOWING MEANS:

(1) PLACEMENT FOR ADOPTION IN A SUITABLE HOME;

(2) RETENTION BY THE SHELTER: OR

(3) HUMANE DESTRUCTION.
