       State of Maryland Prince Georges County Sc.t
                                     On this 7.th day of October in the year
       eighteen hundred and forty four before the subscriber
       a justice of the Peace for the county and state aforesaid
       personally appears Richard Prather of Kent county and
       makes oath on the holy evangely of Almighty God
       that he has been acquainted with William Galloway
       who is now about twenty three or four years of age
       of a mulatto complexion has a scar on the left side
       of his face near his eye for about fifteen years
       past during all of which time he has to the knowledge
       of this defenent been invariably recognised
       and considered as free born This defenent further
       makes oath that ever since his acquaintance
       with the said Gallaway he has been reputed and
       considered to be the son of Rachel Gallaway
       who died about ten years since and who
       this defenent knew for about twenty years previous
       to her death as a free woman of color
                                                 sworn before
