Piscataway 12.th Jany 1843 I hereby certify that I have known the bearer of this - James Barton from his infancy; & that he was always reputed & considered by every person to be the son of Sharlotte Barton, A free Born woman of this village who is still living & recognised as such - & although I cannot swear positively that the said James is the son of the said Sharlote - not being present at his birth) yet I have not the least doubt but he is - & I am quite sure no other person acquainted with the parties has I believe him to be about 21 years old John W Ward On this 12.th Jan 1843 before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of Md for Prince Geo County personally appeared John W Ward and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the above statement is just & true to the best of his knowledge & belief Sworn before H D Dyson |
