       Maryland Prince Georges County to wit

            I hereby certify that the bearer hereof a black
       man by the name of Sam aged about Fifty
       Eight years of a dark complexion and marked
       very much in the face by the small pox four
       feet ten inches high who was raised in the family
       of Basil Waring late of the county aforesaid Deceased
       is a freeman having been liberated by
       Deed from Eleanor Waring bearing date the
       seventeenth day of April Eighteen Hundred
       and twelve and duly executed and recorded in one
       of the land records of the county aforesaid

                Given under my hand and seal of office  
                this thirty first day of August in the year
                one thousand eight hundred and twelve
