JOINT RESOLUTIONS
(1) Develop a list of those Maryland citizens who
sacrificed their lives for their country during the Korean War;
(2) Develop a list of those Maryland citizens who are still
declared as Missing in Action during the Korean War;
(3) Meet regularly to develop recommendations to the
Governor, the Senate of Maryland, and the House of Delegates for
the design, construction, and placement of a suitable memorial
plaque or monument which would contain the names of those
Maryland citizens who died for their country during the Korean
War, and the names of those Maryland citizens who are still
listed as Missing in Action, so that their supreme sacrifice
shall be permanently and publicly recorded; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the commission consist of the Chairman of
the Maryland Veteran's Commission and 1 person from each of the
following organizations:
(1) The American Legion;
(2) AMVETS;
(3) Catholic War Veterans;
(4) Disabled American Veterans;
(5) Jewish War Veterans;
(6) Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
(7) Veterans of World War I; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Governor appoint these members from a
list sent by each of these organizations those members as
selected and appointed by the Governor; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the commission report its recommendations to
the Governor in sufficient time in order that the Governor may
place sufficient funds in the annual budget for the design,
construction, and placement of the memorial; and be it further
RESOLVED, That staff for the Commission be provided by the
Maryland Veteran's Commission; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the memorial be unveiled in an appropriate
ceremony so that the people of Maryland may honor in a suitable
way those who served our nation so nobly during the Korean War;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Honorable Harry
Hughes, Governor of Maryland, and the Honorable Lorraine Sheehan,
Secretary of State.
