3696 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
(1) 2 members of the House of Delegates, appointed by
the Speaker of the House, and 2 members of the Senate of
Maryland, appointed by the President of the Senate; and
(2) 12 representatives from the business community;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Governor designate the Chairman of the
Task Force; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Task Force report its findings and
recommendations to the Governor within 69 days of appointment;
and be it further
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That all
Marylanders are urged to voluntarily contribute to efforts to
provide emergency food assistance to those Africans threatened
with starvation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That all Marylanders are urged to support and work
with the many religious, civic, and cultural organizations that
have been sponsoring fund drives to maximize the contributions of
food, money, and supplies to the starving African people; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the President of the United States and the
U.S. Congress increase emergency food relief to the African
nations experiencing critical food shortages, such assistance to
include efficient transportation of foodstuffs to starving
people; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the President and the U.S. Congress should
recognize the long term needs of African nations and provide
diplomatic, technical, and economic assistance to deal with the
declining production of food in Africa; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Honorable Harry
Hughes, Governor of Maryland, the Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin,
Speaker of the House of Delegates, and the Honorable Melvin A.
Steinberg, President of the Senate of Maryland, the President of
the United States, the Maryland Congressional Delegation, the
Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President of the
U.S. Senate, the Secretary of State, and the U.S. Ambassador to
the United Nations.
