SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Commercial Law
14-1312.
(A)(1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.
(2) "CONSUMER" MEANS A PERSON WHO ENTERS INTO A
CONTRACT WITH A DEALER FOR THE PURCHASE OF LEASE OF FURNITURE OR
A MAJOR HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE.
(3) "DEALER" MEANS A PERSON WHO ENGAGES IN THE
BUSINESS OF SELLING OR LEASING FURNITURE OR MAJOR HOUSEHOLD
APPLIANCES, OR BOTH.
(4)(I) "FURNITURE" MEANS ANY ARTICLE OF CONVENIENCE
OR DECORATION USED TO FURNISH A RESIDENTIAL DWELLING, INCLUDING
ANY CHAIR, TABLE, CABINET, SOFA, CARPET, RUG, CURTAIN, BEDSTEAD,
OR CHEST.
(II) "FURNITURE" DOES NOT MEAN:
1. ANY PERMANENT FIXTURE OR ADJUNCT; OR
2. ANY ARTICLE THAT IS CUSTOM MADE OR
3. ANY ARTICLE THAT IS ORDERED DIRECTLY
BY MAIL.
(5)(I) "MAJOR HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE" MEANS ANY
CONSUMER GOODS INTENDED FOR HOUSEHOLD USE AND HAVING A PURCHASE
PRICE EXCEEDING $200.
(II) "MAJOR HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE" INCLUDES ANY
AIR CONDITIONER, AUDIO OR STEREO EQUIPMENT, WASHING MACHINE,
DRYER, DISHWASHER, FOOD FREEZER, REFRIGERATOR, STOVE, RANGE,
OVEN, SEWING MACHINE, TELEVISION SET, OR TAPE OR VIDEO RECORDER.
