SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Section 1 of this
Act shall take effect July 1, 1985 and shall remain effective
until February 1, 1986. On February 1, 1986, and with no
further action required by the General Assembly, Section 1 of
this Act shall be abrogated and of no further force and effect.
Section 2 of this Act shall take effect February 1, 1986.

(House Bill 1712)

AN ACT concerning

Somerset County - State's Attorney

FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Somerset County
State's Attorney; specifying the requirements of the State's
Attorney's office; requiring Somerset County Commissioners
to pay the expenses of the office of the State's Attorney;
prohibiting the State's Attorney from engaging in the

private practice of law during his term of office;

specifying that this Act does not affect the incumbent; and
generally relating to the office of the State's Attorney in
Somerset County.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

Section 40(t)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1981 Replacement Volume and 1984 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

40.

(t) In Somerset County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary
is [$16,000] $35,000 $24,000.

(2) THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY NOT ENGAGE IN THE
PRIVATE PRACTICE OF LAW DURING HIS TERM OF OFFICE.

(3) SUBSEQUENT TO 1986, THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
SHALL SET THE SALARY FOR THE ENSUING TERMS OF OFFICE, BUT IT MAY
NOT BE LESS THAN $35,000.
