FOR the purpose of requiring the posting of certain fire safety
information in hotel, motel, and lodging house guest rooms;
providing a penalty for a violation of this Act; and
providing for a delayed effective date to allow for the
promulgation of rules and regulations by the State Fire
Marshal State Fire Prevention Commission and, in Baltimore
City, the Chief of the Fire Department.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 38A - Fires and Investigations

53A.

(A)  ALL HOTELS, MOTELS, AND LODGING HOUSES SHALL POST A
NOTICE IN A PROMINENT PLACE IN EACH GUEST ROOM CONTAINING THE
FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

(1)  LOCATION OF NEAREST EXITS AND FIRE ALARMS PULL
STATIONS;

(2)  PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED WHEN THE FIRE OR SMOKE
DETECTOR GIVES WARNING SIGNALS; AND

(3)  PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE EVENT OF FIRE OR
SMOKE DEVELOPMENT.

(B) ANY HOTEL, MOTEL, OR LODGING HOUSE THAT VIOLATES ANY
REGULATION ADOPTED BY THE STATE FIRE PREVENTION COMMISSION IS
SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PROVIDED IN § 13 OF THIS ARTICLE.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect on October 1, 1985, except that any rules and
regulations necessary for the timely implementation of this Act
on its effective date shall be promulgated on or before such date
by the State Fire Marshal State Fire Prevention Commission and,
in Baltimore City, the Chief of the Fire Department.
