SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-309.

(a) The sheriff of a county and his deputies shall receive
the annual salaries provided by this section for performing the
duties required of them by the Constitution and the laws of this
State. They shall be reimbursed for expenses as provided by law.

(i) (1) (i) The Sheriff of Cecil County shall receive an
annual salary of [$20,000 and $4,800 per year in lieu of lodging
at the jail] $32,000.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to
Article III, § 35, of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may
not be construed to extend or apply to the salary or compensation
of the Sheriff of Cecil County in office on the effective date of
this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary
or compensation of the Sheriff of Cecil County shall take effect
at the beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.
