SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Health Occupations

Subtitle 1. General Provisions

5.5-101.

(a)  In this title the following words have the meanings
indicated.

(b)  "Board" means the State Board of Environmental
Sanitarian Registration.

(c)   ["Certificate" means, unless the context requires
otherwise, a certificate of certification as a registered
environmental sanitarian, issued by the Board.

(d)  "Registered environmental sanitarian" means, unless the
context requires otherwise, an environmental sanitarian who is
certified by the Board as a registered environmental sanitarian.

(e)] (1) "Environmental sanitarian" means [an individual] A
PERSON IN THE PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SECTOR:

(I)  [who] WHO by education and experience is
qualified to provide, through the application of academic
training in physical, biological, and sanitary sciences, and
through on-the-job training, the routine inspections and
investigational services essential for the promotion and
maintenance of environmental health; AND

(II)  WHO PERFORMS, ON A ROUTINE BASIS,
INSPECTIONS AND INVESTIGATIONS TO AID IN SECURING COMPLIANCE WITH
THE HEALTH LAWS AND REGULATIONS SPECIFICALLY PERTAINING TO
CONTROL OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH ASPECTS OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN ANY OF
THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

1.  THE MANUFACTURE, PREPARATION,
HANDLING, DISTRIBUTION, OR SALE OF FOOD AND MILK;

2.  WATER SUPPLY AND TREATMENT;
