Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact
Section 40(c)(1)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact
40.
(c) In Anne Arundel County:
(i) (I) SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE III, §
35 OF THE MARYLAND CONSTITUTION, AND BEGINNING WITH THE TERM OF
THE STATE'S ATTORNEY WHO IS ELECTED TO THAT POSITION IN 1986,
[The] THE State's Attorney's salary shall be equal to the salary
of a circuit COURT judge of the eight judicial circuits AND SHALL
BE INCREASED 5 PERCENT FOR EACH YEAR FOR THE YEARS 1988, 1989,
AND 1990. THE STATE'S ATTORNEY'S SALARY SHALL BE INCREASED TO
REMAIN EQUAL AND CONCURRENT WITH THE ANNUAL INCREASES OF THE
CIRCUIT COURT JUDGES' SALARIES AS PROVIDED BY LAW AND IN THE
ANNUAL BUDGET.
(II) The State's Attorney, during his term of
office, may not appear, except in connection with and in
performance of his duties as State's Attorney, as counsel or
represent any party professionally before any court, board,
commission or agency of this State or any county or political
subdivision of this State.
(III) It is intended that the THE State's
Attorney may not engage in the private practice of law.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to
Article III, § 35, of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may
not be construed to extend or apply to the salary or compensation
of the State's Attorney of Anne Arundel County in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act
concerning the salary or compensation of the State's Attorney of
Anne Arundel County shall take effect at the beginning of the
next following term of office.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.
