LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 140

Maryland be renumbered to be Section(s) 4-4, 4-6, 4-7, and 4-8,
respectively.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Laws of
Maryland read as follows:

Article 4 - Baltimore City

4-3.

(A)  APPLICANTS FOR THE FIRST GRADE STATIONARY ENGINEER'S
EXAMINATION SHALL POSSESS AT LEAST 1 OF THE FOLLOWING
QUALIFICATIONS:

(1)  A SECOND GRADE STATIONARY ENGINEER LICENSE FOR 1
YEAR OR MORE AND EMPLOYMENT FOR AT LEAST 12 MONTHS (1,750 WORKING
HOURS) IN THE OPERATION OF HIGH PRESSURE BOILERS;

(2)  FIVE YEARS OR MORE OPERATING EXPERIENCE IN A
PLANT THAT GENERATES A MINIMUM OF 17,250 POUNDS OF STEAM PER
HOUR;

(3)  A DEGREE IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING FROM AN
ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE, AND 6 MONTHS OR MORE OF
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE; OR

(4)  A VALID MARINE ENGINEER'S CERTIFICATE OR A CHIEF
PETTY OFFICER'S CERTIFICATE FROM THE UNITED STATES NAVY, WITH
STEAM BOILER ENGINEERING TRAINING.

(B)  APPLICANTS FOR THE SECOND GRADE STATIONARY ENGINEER'S
EXAMINATION SHALL POSSESS AT LEAST 1 OF THE FOLLOWING
QUALIFICATIONS:

(1)  EMPLOYMENT FOR AT LEAST 24 MONTHS (3,500 WORKING
HOURS) IN A POWER PLANT UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF A
LICENSED FIRST GRADE STATIONARY ENGINEER;

(2)  EMPLOYMENT AS A THIRD GRADE STATIONARY ENGINEER
FOR 1 YEAR OR MORE; OR

(3)  A VALID MARINE ENGINEER'S CERTIFICATE OR CHIEF
PETTY OFFICER'S CERTIFICATE FROM THE UNITED STATES NAVY.

(C)  APPLICANTS FOR A THIRD OR FOURTH GRADE STATIONARY
ENGINEER'S EXAMINATION ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW EXPERIENCE IN THE
OPERATION OF OR EXPERIENCE AROUND A PLANT OR MACHINERY.

(D)  AN APPLICANT FOR ANY EXAMINATION MAY SUBSTITUTE 2 YEARS
OF EDUCATION IN A TRADE OR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL FOR 1 YEAR OF
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE.
